My first yardsale and well.............

My first yardsale and well i am glad i got it out of the way! And wanted to share with you. I started this weekend not sure what i was in for. Or well if i would even sell anything. It started out much like every other day around my house. Kids were hungry, husband was leaving for work, me no shower and looking a fright. After preparing all my things for months inadvance i was ready to go. It was all going great, meeting all the neighborhood friendly's and out of no where it was like a cattle herd with me and the kids belongings in the middle. That is what you want at a yardsale right? Sure you do, but not planning in advance for every single person with every single item to haggle with you on price will cost you time-it did me:) I had no idea that i would be negotiating 10 cent picture frames . This is new to me! Do not get me wrong i love a good yard sale but shit if it says 25 cents i go with it.... I had some ladies do this today over 10 or 15 cents. I had bikerish kinda guys buying the kids stuffed animals for their puppy, kinda cute right? Nah they must have had like Jack or something in their cokes cause there were a swayin at 2pm in the day. Had one lady that wanted to buy this really big mirror, like huge for her stallion horse(odd kinda?). I visited with more pregnant women in one day the any other in my life.(that is cool).  I did my second daughters first lemonade stand and found 3 out 5 prefer Pink lemonade over regular lemonade(She did a great job). I had the pleasure of meeting more than half of the dogs that shit in my front yard.(that is cool to-but i don't have a dog and do not want dog shit:) Today was the only day you will see a Mercedez parked in front of my house, not sure why the rich folk shopped at my yardsale but they did.( We drive cool cars, not luxury cars;) I took lessons in auto sales after the 20th time of asking... "Is your Motor home for sale?" Yes my friends it is a yardsale but no its not for sale. This was only funny after i really considered selling my old car after another guy said .."Hey is that Honda for sale?" Would have left my tattooed bikerish looking husband riding a scooter to work..Haha LMAO. So you see i had alot of fun today and did it all with my family, minus the husband though, to bad for him. He sure missed out on all the funny, weird, crazy things that happen at a yardsale... In our neighborhood! I hope you all have a great weekend:) I will be back Monday with a few new giveaways!!
Thanks everyone!

Great post. I tried to have a yard sale once and no one ever showed. I didn't have a clue at 19 years old. I didn't even put a sign up anywhere and I lived on a dead end. :D

We had a yard sale this year and it actually went really well. My parents were having a moving sale, so they did it at my house. I didn't really have to do much of the work so I didn't mind. lol

We are gearing up for our first garage sale. We pulled this idea out of our ass this morning. The sale is set for next Saturday. LOL I think we are insane.

Thanks everyone! I will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Also i think it helped that we payed to place ad in our city paper as well as all the free sites, craigslist etc... Signs... Sent hubbie with lots of carefully planned signs:)

Sounds like an INTERESTING experience! Hopefully you made a few bucks and it was worth it in the long run. I've had several garage sales and I don't waste my time pricing EVERY little thing because (as you experienced) people want to haggle over everything! Here's the big question - will you do it again???

Oh my goodness I was laughing so hard I almost tipped over in my chair, you are too funny girl.
I favorite is meeting all the dogs that shit in my yard! I also don't have a dog and really appreciate spending time sitting in my yard and watching people let there dogs stop and not clean after them.
Thanks for the laughs it was so worth the visit.

Next time, buy a few broken down cars and make a few more bucks! ;)

Glad that you enjoyed it. I end up getting so frustrated with people haggling me to give them stuff for free. Of course, someone always steals something too. I dread yard sales!! But I do like shopping at them.

Yep, that sounds like a typical yard sale to me! Pro tip: Always price items for more than you want to sell them. If you want to sell something for $.25, mark it $.50. $1, mark it $2. $5, mark it $8. When people try to talk you down, they feel like they're getting a deal and you feel like you're getting the price you want to get! ;)

We're doing one this coming weekend so we can move. I'm frightened, since the last (and first one) we ever did, my family left me to do it all! Seriously, people haggle over cheap prices! Hey, I wanna make some money ya know! I'm actually doing Craigslist first for the big stuff, then maybe we can donate the leftovers before doing a yardsale. lol

I have so much stuff I really should have another yard sale but I haven't felt like getting my butt in gear to get organized enough for it yet! Did one a few years ago and got rid of a bunch of stuff I would have been happy to giveaway and made about $20 too! Still kinda sucky for yard sale earnings though considering the time I took to organize everything and sit out there all day...

@Angela - that is an awesome idea! We're planning one this summer as well. I'll take this advice and run with it. Great way to promo my kiddie etiquette business too. Thanks!
