K-NEX Review and Giveaway (Ends 3/31) - 3 Winners CLOSED

If you aren’t already familiar with K’nex, they offer awesome building sets. The sets have a bunch of rods and different connecting pieces that you can put together to make about anything you can imagine. The various sets also come with wheels, gears, and building bricks. The pieces are color coded which makes it easy to find exactly the piece you are looking for and easier to follow the building guides.

K’nex has a large number of themed sets. They also have additional value tub sets. For example the 350 part value tub comes with an assortment of pieces- with building ideas for 20 different models. The value sets also work with the other sets to give even more possibilities! The tubs also make a great storage container for the pieces with room to store partially completed creations (or other sets).

We recently had the opportunity to review some products from K'nex new spring line:

Micro-Bots (age 7+)

Micro-bots are kits to build “robot bugs” which are super cute! These are probably my favorite of the new kits.There are four different kits to build different bugs that are named after the way they move - Hopper, Scooter, Crawler, and Speedy. They come with battery operated motors which are very cool and can be used to build other creations. My kids built a robot following the directions. Then, they grabbed some pieces from the value tub and the wheels of the fire engine and they have been modifying it ever since.  And it was what my son chose to take to share day today.  You know its at the top of the "cool list" when he chooses it for share day!

Construction Crew Series & Fire Rescue 10  (age 5+)

These are very neat. Each of the construction sets has a different construction vehicle you can build - an excavator, a front loader, a steam roller, and a backhoe. They come with little “brick plates” and little brick blocks to build your own construction site and little people to “drive” the vehicles the kids build.

The Fire Rescue 10 is also in this age range (5+). It comes with a spring motor that you can use to make your creations move. There are instructions for 10 different models, and I’ve lost count of the additional creations that my son has been “driving” around.

Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection (age 3+)

This is the perfect way for little hands to get in on the K’nex fun. Kids get to build Sesame Street characters. It helps develop hand-eye coordination, encourages imaginative play, builds language skills as you work on building with your child, and problem solving skills are developed as your child sorts the k’nex and makes the patterns. Cute, educational, and fun. The kids love it!  I love it!

Overall

I love how they provide detailed picture instructions to get the kids started and then once the kids get the hang of things, they can move beyond the instructions and make their own creations, and I love how the different sets can be combined.  

It is fun working with the kids to make the models and seeing their imaginations go to work. And the kids are SO proud of the creations that they make. Definitely an A+ for inspiring creativity and imagination.
