Reduce Review and 5pc Mixing Bowl Giveaway( Ends 3/31) CLOSED

A couple of months ago, I shared how much I love my Reduce Waterweek reusable water bottles (See that review here). I still use them daily; they are holding up nicely; and I am drinking much more water than I used to. Yay!

Reduce is a company that I just love. I am trying to find all the little ways I can to be more “green” and reduce is all about that. They have a line of eco-friendly home products that currently includes their reusable water bottles (BRA-free plastic and stainless steel), “smash” cans, and melaboo tableware.

I recently got the opportunity to try a few of Reduce's Melaboo products and I love them! Melaboo is a great material. It is a composite material made with bamboo fibers. What? Bamboo??? The stuff that pandas eat?  Yeah, thats what I thought too. But it is absolutely wonderful. It is very strong and lightweight, and it holds up well. However, according Reduce, it will decompose under landfill conditions within 18 months. Sturdy and ultimately biodegradable. I love it!

I did a little research on bamboo and have discovered that it an amazing material to use. It is strong, lightweight, and grows quickly. It's the fastest growing plant on land. (Fun Fact: For anyone who's curious about why I added “on land” to that, Pacific Kelp grows more quickly.) Some types of bamboo can grow as quickly as a foot a day or more and with it's quick growth, it uses up a lot of CO2 and gives off a lot of oxygen. Good for the environment . . .

And great for my kitchen! The Melaboo products that I have are the Mixing Bowl Set which has .25qt, .5qt, 1.25qt, 2qt, and 3.25qt bowls. They are officially called mixing bowls, but they are also great for serving food, and great for snacks. And they are so pretty. I also have the Melaboo Measuring Spoon Set which includes 1tbsp, 1tsp, 1/2tsp, and 1/4tsp, and the Melaboo Measuring Cup Set which has a 1cp, 1/2cp, 1/3cp, and 1/4cp. They are easy to clean and durable. They are holding up very well, and did I mention how pretty they are? :-)

So, thanks to reduce, I am now further on my way toward an eco-friendly kitchen.

Easy Lunch Boxes Review and Giveaway(Ends 3/31)CLOSED

I hate buying plastic sandwich bags!  I hate spending the money on them.  I hate throwing tons of them away all the time.  I have been wanting to find a “greener” waste-free way of packing the kids lunches.  I’ve found it.

We having been trying out the Easy Lunch Box System from Easy Lunchboxes.com, and we love them.  They are a three compartment plastic container with a single lid and an insulated lunch bag.

The kids say they are great because at lunch they sit down, take the lid off, and all the food is right there without having the dig around in their lunch pail for the different plastic bags. They also love helping to pack them.  (My youngest struggles a bit with the zipper on the lunch bag so if you have little ones you may need to add a zipper pull.) 

I love them because they are easy to pack - no messing with individual bags - I just put everything in and click on the lid .  Then when the kids get home, I just toss the containers in the top rack of the dishwasher.  They are also microwave safe which makes them great for adult lunches too. 

Here are a couple of more things that I love:

• The lunch bag has a grommet on it that you can use to put charms or key chains, backpack zipper clips or other decorations to personalize the cooler bag.  And it has plenty of room for a ice pack and for a thermos or extra snacks.
• The Easy Lunchboxes website has lots of great ideas for lunch packing “inspiration” too.  I’ve found that having the container has encouraged us to find things to pack other than the standard sandwich and chips.  (And lots of those things have been healthy fruits and vegetables. Yay!

K-NEX Review and Giveaway (Ends 3/31) - 3 Winners CLOSED

If you aren’t already familiar with K’nex, they offer awesome building sets. The sets have a bunch of rods and different connecting pieces that you can put together to make about anything you can imagine. The various sets also come with wheels, gears, and building bricks. The pieces are color coded which makes it easy to find exactly the piece you are looking for and easier to follow the building guides.

K’nex has a large number of themed sets. They also have additional value tub sets. For example the 350 part value tub comes with an assortment of pieces- with building ideas for 20 different models. The value sets also work with the other sets to give even more possibilities! The tubs also make a great storage container for the pieces with room to store partially completed creations (or other sets).

We recently had the opportunity to review some products from K'nex new spring line:

Micro-Bots (age 7+)

Micro-bots are kits to build “robot bugs” which are super cute! These are probably my favorite of the new kits.There are four different kits to build different bugs that are named after the way they move - Hopper, Scooter, Crawler, and Speedy. They come with battery operated motors which are very cool and can be used to build other creations. My kids built a robot following the directions. Then, they grabbed some pieces from the value tub and the wheels of the fire engine and they have been modifying it ever since.  And it was what my son chose to take to share day today.  You know its at the top of the "cool list" when he chooses it for share day!

Construction Crew Series & Fire Rescue 10  (age 5+)

These are very neat. Each of the construction sets has a different construction vehicle you can build - an excavator, a front loader, a steam roller, and a backhoe. They come with little “brick plates” and little brick blocks to build your own construction site and little people to “drive” the vehicles the kids build.

The Fire Rescue 10 is also in this age range (5+). It comes with a spring motor that you can use to make your creations move. There are instructions for 10 different models, and I’ve lost count of the additional creations that my son has been “driving” around.

Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection (age 3+)

This is the perfect way for little hands to get in on the K’nex fun. Kids get to build Sesame Street characters. It helps develop hand-eye coordination, encourages imaginative play, builds language skills as you work on building with your child, and problem solving skills are developed as your child sorts the k’nex and makes the patterns. Cute, educational, and fun. The kids love it!  I love it!

Overall

I love how they provide detailed picture instructions to get the kids started and then once the kids get the hang of things, they can move beyond the instructions and make their own creations, and I love how the different sets can be combined.  

It is fun working with the kids to make the models and seeing their imaginations go to work. And the kids are SO proud of the creations that they make. Definitely an A+ for inspiring creativity and imagination.

Wade Oaks Review and Giveaway(Ends 3/31)CLOSED

Stacey Harper is the designer behind Wade Oaks. Her shirts and onesies are one of a kind designs that you will not find anywhere else. They come in a great selection for boys and girls and even a few neutral designs. I think her designs are fun and modern and not typical of most kids clothes these days. Fandangling Review and Giveaway(Ends 3/31) CLOSED

Anything my little guy loves I love. And my son loved his Fandangling he received for his room. I had seen these around before and was very excited to try one. My son now plays in his room for longer and is mesmerized by the spinning. He lays on the floor pointing laughing and having a blast. My son is 1 1/2 and loves it. I invented Fandangling quite by accident. It all started with our daughter Lia. When she was born we were seeking ways to keep her happy and interested in her room. When I put the first Fandangling on the fan in her room, her eyes lit up and the rest, as they say, is history.
